We are seeking a Metrology Engineer / Metrologist to support the development and production of small turbojet engines through advanced measurement and inspection techniques. This role is responsible for ensuring dimensional accuracy, geometric conformity, and measurement integrity across critical turbine components including compressors, combustors, turbine rotors, and engine structures.
You will work closely with propulsion, manufacturing, and quality engineers to develop and implement precision measurement strategies for prototype and production hardware. The ideal candidate thrives in hands-on engineering environments and is passionate about ensuring the highest standards of measurement accuracy for high-performance aerospace systems.
Develop and execute precision measurement strategies for turbojet engine components and assemblies.
Perform dimensional inspection using CMMs, laser scanners, structured light scanners, and optical metrology systems.
Establish and maintain measurement processes, inspection procedures, and calibration standards.
Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stacks to define inspection requirements.
Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers to validate critical turbine component geometries including blades, rotors, shafts, housings, and combustor hardware.
Perform first article inspections (FAI) and support prototype hardware validation.
Develop inspection programs for CMM and automated measurement systems.
Analyze dimensional data to identify manufacturing variation, geometric trends, and root causes of deviations.
Support incoming inspection, in-process verification, and final inspection of propulsion hardware.
Establish and maintain metrology equipment calibration and traceability to national or international standards.
Support failure investigations and root cause analysis through precision measurement and geometric analysis.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
2+ years of experience in metrology, dimensional inspection, or precision measurement.
Experience with CMM programming and operation (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso, PolyWorks, or similar).
Strong understanding of GD&T and engineering drawings.
Experience using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and optical measurement systems.
Ability to analyze dimensional data and communicate results clearly to engineering teams.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to measurement accuracy.
Experience working with gas turbine engines, turbomachinery, or aerospace hardware.
Experience measuring complex freeform geometries such as turbine blades or aerodynamic surfaces.
Experience with 3D scanning, laser trackers, or structured light metrology systems.
Familiarity with tolerance analysis and statistical process control (SPC).
Experience supporting prototype hardware development or rapid engineering iteration.
Knowledge of AS9100 or aerospace quality systems.
Experience with metrology automation or inspection data management systems.
