Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Quality Director to lead our manufacturing quality assurance efforts. The ideal candidate has prior experience establishing quality systems from the ground up and is familiar with metalworking processes such as forging, casting, machining, or painting. Experience with multi-stage processes operating on 24/7 schedules and previous work in multi-plant or distributed manufacturing systems is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the Quality team
Establish a company-wide culture of quality through data-driven decision making.
Build a Quality Management System (QMS) for defense-grade steel forgings, ensuring ISO 9001 compliance.
Lead audits and enforce standards to maintain top-quality, battle-ready products.
Use RCCA methodologies (8D, 5-Why) to eliminate defects and non-conformances.
Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and statistical tools (Minitab, Excel) to maintain process consistency.
Utilize metallurgy expertise to verify that steel meets defense specifications.
Drive lean and Six Sigma initiatives to reduce waste and improve quality.
Serve as the main quality point of contact for customers and suppliers.
Oversee four shift supervisors and multiple quality technicians across four shifts.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quality Systems, Reliability Engineering, Applied Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgy, or Materials Science.
Experience: 7-10+ years in quality management; experience building ISO 9001/AS9100 systems; background in defense, ammunition, aerospace, or complex manufacturing/assembly environments is a plus.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with RCCA tools; SPC statistics (Minitab); experience with R-Shiny.
Leadership/Work Style: Hands-on leader, team builder, and thrives under pressure.
Soft Skills: Strong communicator, proactive problem solver, coach, and mentor.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs in a demanding shop environment with heat and noise.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of defense standards (MIL-STD, ITAR).
Mastery of metallurgy for ferrous, non-ferrous, and super alloys.
Experience with Nondestructive Testing (NDT), including ultrasonic and dye penetrant methods.
Six Sigma Black Belt or ASQ CQE certification.
Work Environment:
This role is primarily based on the shop floor in Dallas, with occasional office work and travel required for audits or customer operations.
Compensation Range: $146K - $216K
